eStat PROtect™

ByoPlanet eStat PROtect™ is 5% active 3-(trihydroxysilyl) propyldimethyloctadecyl ammonium chloride in a stabilized aqueous solution. When applied to surfaces, ByoPlanet eStat PROtect™ is microbiostatic, inhibiting the growth of a wide range of dangerous microorganisms. ByoPlanet eStat PROtect™ is a reactive quaternary siloxane that imparts durable antimicrobial protection to a wide range of surfaces. 


When applied with ByoPlanet's Electrostatic Applicator, the ByoPlanet eStat PROtect™ coats the substrate with a layer of PROtect one molecule deep. Then polymerization occurs creating a three ­dimensional network of molecules bonded to one another and anchored to the substrate at the Silane Base by covalent bonds, the strongest in nature. The Long Molecular Chain with the positively charged Nitrogen atom at its base points away from the substrate and should be viewed as a network of swords, each only one CH3 molecule thick. It is this Long Molecular Chain that physically ruptures the cell wall when the microbe is drawn towards the positively charged Nitrogen atom. Microbe cell walls that come in contact with ByoPlanet eStat PROtect™ are damaged on contact, without creating opportunities for adaptive or resistant strains to form making the treated surface inhospitable to microbial growth. ByoPlanet eStat PROtect™ is effective against Gram Positive and Gram Negative Bacteria, Viruses, Fungi, Algae, Mold, Yeast and Spores; yet it contains no heavy metals, carcinogens or toxins. ByoPlanet eStat PROtect™ is bonded to the substrate on the atomic level, is not consumed when attacked, does not deplete and remains adhered to the treated material between regular best-practice cleanings.

Stabilized Organosilane Antimicrobial Agent

ByoPlanet™ eStat PROtect™ treatment provides an invisible microbiostatic coating for effective, durable protection of treated surfaces against microbial deterioration, odor, staining and discoloration typically associated with bacteria, fungi (mold and mildew) and algae. ByoPlanet™ eStat PROtect™ is a reactive quat siloxane that imparts durable antimicrobial protection to a wide range of surfaces. Use ByoPlanet™ eStat PROtect™ to treat textiles. including apparel, upholstery and carpeting, non-porous washable bathroom and kitchen surfaces and fixtures, architectural surfaces such as concrete, brick, wallboard, particleboard, stone and masonry. ByoPlanet™ eStat PROtect™ can also be used as a paint additive for antimicrobial resistant coatings or any application where durable, substantive antimicrobial surface activity is desired. ByoPlanet™ eStat PROtect™ can be diluted with water or other solvent (such as alcohols and ketones) in a range of 0.1-1.0% active for direct application to surfaces. Apply by ByoPlanet™ Electrostatic Sprayer, pad, spray, dip, soak, fogging or foam finishing, then dry/cure at ambient temperature, or up to 160°C for short periods.

Handling Information

ByoPlanet™ eStat PROtect™ is an effective treatment agent for surface protection against odor, staining and discoloration caused by bacteria, fungi (mold and mildew) and algae. Treatment solutions can be prepared by diluting 3.2-32 fluid ounces of ByoPlanet™ eStat PROtect™ per gallon of water or water and other solvents such as alcohols, glycol ethers and ketones. Dilution into aqueous alcoholic solutions is recommended to improve stability of use-dilutions of ByoPlanet™ eStat PROtect™ solutions, for example in 5-10% aqueous 2-propanol, to control oligomerization (crosslinking) of the silane. ByoPlanet™ eStat PROtect™ solutions can be applied to organic or inorganic substrates by ByoPlanet™ Electrostatic Sprayer, brushing, dipping, soaking, spraying, or by using foam finishing techniques to give a final treatment of 0.1 to 1.0 percent by weight active ingredient. The substrate can be dried at temperatures from ambient to a maximum of 160°C (320°F) to effect complete condensation of silanol groups and to remove water, solvent and/or traces of methanol from hydrolysis. Optimum application and drying conditions, such as time and temperature, should be determined for each application before use. If necessary, reapply ByoPlanet™ eStat PROtect™ every three months or when odor, staining and discoloration due to bacteria, mold stains, and mildew stains return. 
In Textile Finishing, a 2-4% pad bath concentration of is recommended, resulting in 0.1-0.2% of actives on weight of fabric. Test at the higher recommended range, then optimize to lower concentration as desired. In this 'example, with 100% wet pickup, add 4% ByoPlanet™ eStat PROtect™ to the pad bath, if the wet pickup is only 50%, add 8% to the pad bath. Pad bath dilutions should be made with purified water and used/replaced within an 8-hour period.

The following is a picture taken with an electron microscope of a surface coated with the active ingredient in ByoPlanet's eStat PROtect™ showing the long molecular chains extending out from the substrate. The sides of the square of the substrate in the picture are about 10 nanometers in length. Since typical microbes are 120 - 1,000 nanometers in size, one can see how many of the molecular 'swords' would damage the cell wall on contact making the treated surface inhospitable to microbial growth.

A major Southern University had locker rooms and a sauna located adjacent to a saline pool. Mold growth was rampant in both locker rooms and sauna.
